Easy Coin Tricks - Turning Easy Magic Into Miracles

Young magicians often avoid the easy magic tricks, especially coin tricks, and go looking for magician-class magic. These novice magicians don't understand that even the easiest of tricks can be real foolers ... in the hands of a skilled magician. Here are some tips to make your magic more astonishing ... even the easy coin tricks:

Don't Let the Method Fool You
Magicians fool other magicians with easy magic all of the time. It's not the method, but rather the presentation. Magicians with good timing, skill at directing a spectator's attention, and natural movements that hide the secrets, can fool even the best magicians with simple tricks.

Don't let the method fool you. I remember, as a beginning magician, I'd get fooled by the magician at the magic shop. Then I'd buy the trick, and be disappointed at the method used to accomplish the magic.

It was the same learning coin tricks from books: I'd see the magician perform an easy coin trick on TV -- easy, but still baffling to me. Afterwards, I would find the trick in a coin magic book. And I would be so disappointed to find out that it was nothing more than having a second coin or learning a way to hide the coin in your hand.

Now, I have learned that it really isn't the method -- it's the complete presentation of the effect.

Important Magic Question to Ask Yourself
When learning a coin trick, even an easy one, you should ask yourself how a more skilled magician would present the minor miracle.

By imagining a master magician performing the coin trick that you are trying to learn, you'll elevate your own presentation.

It's almost like having a magic teacher at your side.

Practicing Coin Magic
When you practice coin magic, be sure to practice for smoothness. Smooth doesn't necessarily mean fast. Magicians say that you should be so practiced that you can perform the coin trick in your sleep. That's true ... but be sure you can perform it in your sleep at the proper speed.

After you can perform all of the intricacies of the coin trick ... all of the techniques flawlessly at any speed, then be sure to practice the magic effect with the proper timing. When you run through the trick, pause at the proper points, allow time for the spectator to examine the coin, and so on.

How Would the Trick Look to the Spectator?
When all is said and done, remember that the coin trick will not fool you; you know where you are hiding the coin. Fooling yourself is not important. Amazing the audience is.

If your trick entertains AND fools the spectator, then it's a good coin trick, no matter how easy it is to accomplish the effect.

The Magic Vanishing Bird Cage

One of the classic and mystic tricks ever invented in the history of magic is the Fire Bird Cage Trick. There have been many versions of the cage to escape, but Clarence Slyter was a considerable improvement to it.

Slyter used to pull the arm. But he had mounted a heavy spring roll the tape on his left wrist. Before he is ready for the disappearance of the cable is long enough to be easily mounted on the cage. If the cage in his hand, his arms are quite widespreadfix the latch on the roll. This takes the excess cord, until it is sufficiently short to be missing in the usual way. To take the cable itself, in the role prevents removal of the cable under the force pulled. There are roles facts, which have sufficient strength to the cage in the hole or under clothing, if he had to draw released.

We can not ignore the train used elastic, with a handkerchief disappear. It is a pear-shaped container with a lengthelastic cord. If the handkerchief stuffed in the container caused by simply releasing the container may disappear. The rubber band is pulling out of sight. The train has elastic for vanishing coins, decks of cards, the color roles, watches, pens, wooden cigar, cigarette smuggling, balls, eggs were used. Often you will find attached the rubber, some strange statements in what has to disappear as the owner of the object. But disappear depends on the voltageelastic tight as anyone can see who has ever stood in front of people and found that age has finally caught up with the elasticity.

A variant of the cord was used for the fireplace Vanish. The handkerchief is locked in a cycle of catgut, as the filled cylinder. The cylinder is held between the palms. The handkerchief is clearly visible through the glass. A moment that is there. Next, there's more.

A spring roll, sometimes also called FlashDrag is used for this trick. The coil has a strong spring. The cable can be pulled to the desired distance. The performer pushes a hook on the roller. This keeps the cord in place so far. A light on the cable train to catch the trigger. The spring tension also tends to pull the cord. When the object is release it in a flash.

The space of the conventional cage is not the only object that is passed into a tirade in question. There were roundCages, lamps and other large objects, all bent up, who were pulling the sleeve of the arm power. The exact opposite of the decanter old trick, the spider web and many other phenomena can be made to disappear in a similar application of others. So, conversely, the settings of applications for different gravity or the rotating disk.

How to Do Simple Production Magic Tricks

Have you ever watch a close up magician produces a coin in front of your eyes? That is one of the most magical effect I have ever seen. But how did he do that? The most common and powerful way to produce an object is by misdirection. The magician pretends to produce something out of thin air, but in fact he secretly loads the object while spectator's attentions are directed away. Let's look at the cigar multiple production effect as an example.

The magician secretly conceals a cigar in his left hand. He then brings the attention to the cigar holding publicly in his right hand. He apparently puts the cigar from right hand to left hand and at the same time he secretly puts the concealed cigar from left hand to the right. The right hand then produces the new cigar. The principle can be applied to unlimited number of effects.

The method can be used to produce many many different objects like cards, coins, pens, glasses, CD, rings or anything you can think of. You can try it out. Do experiments. Use different objects to apply the principle and produce a trick of your own.

The next most common way to produce an object is to use speed. The magician brings out something so fast that spectators' eyes are fooled and thinks that an object has been produced. It is said that the hand is quicker than the eye, but in fact that is impossible. Some sort of help is used to achieve high speed like that.

Many kinds of mechanical devices have been used by magicians to provide the thrust they need. The most common types are pulling thread, elastic pull and the spring pull. These are convenient tools which are silent and compact. Other larger illusions can use the help of electric motor, counterweight or even steam engine. As long as the device can provide the suitable amount of force and speed that enable the object to appear at lightning speed, magicians are happy to try them out.

Usually a thread is used to pull out the object. An perfect illustration would be the appearing handkerchief effect. The handkerchief is tied by a thread that runs from the neck of a bottle to the inside and through a hole at the side to an assistant or a machine. The bottle is put on a table and the handkerchief is hidden inside a secret pocket in the table. The assistant or the machine then pulls the string at the appropriate moment extremely quickly to produce the handkerchief inside the bottle or container.

7 Magic Marketing Tips For Commercial Real Estate Success

I never cease to be amazed. The other day I sent a survey to my clients asking what topics they'd like to learn more about and the response was unanimous - MARKETING. It's funny because when we were all busy getting our degrees, certifications and real estate licenses we forgot to take a course on how to market our services. We never learned this stuff! The point of marketing is to generate a never-ending flow of prospects who call you! Who wouldn't want that? I have come up with 7 Magic Marketing Tips (or Strategies) for Commercial Real Estate success:

Marketing Tip #1 - Brand Yourself as an Expert

Most individuals and companies prefer dealing with an expert. List ten ways you can be known as an expert in your niche and than start checking each one off as you accomplish it. Before you know it, you will be the "expert." One of the best ways to be seen as an expert is to be published. Write articles, write newsletters, write a book, write a special report - just write.

Marketing Tip #2 - Don't be Afraid to Think Outside the Box

Brainstorm ideas with yourself and/or others. Most commercial real estate professionals think alike. Every action step is the same. I have noticed that even though my clients want to try something different, when push comes to shove, no one ever will. Remember, if you want to get a different result, you have to take different action steps. This requires thinking outside the box. Be willing to take risks.

Marketing Tip #3 - Have a Marketing Calendar

Each November map out the next calendar year by putting in all the marketing steps you intend to take, the date (s) they will be taken, and the desired results. This can be written on a calendar (best method), entered in a spreadsheet or any other method you choose. The point is, plan ahead in writing and follow through.

Marketing Tip #4 - Have an Assistant Help Implement the Plan

You cannot possibly do everything yourself. When I work with clients and their marketing calendars we strategize to have as many things as possible be included that the broker does not have to do personally. For example, implement a postcard campaign where your assistant designs and sends a postcard on the second Tuesday of each month. Or, draft a newsletter but have it edited, improved upon, and sent out by somebody else. Perhaps have your assistant invite three people to join you for lunch each Tuesday (including making reservations and confirming each guest). You get the idea, don't you?

Marketing Tip # 5 - Follow Up Regularly

This is a fact: 90% of commercial real estate brokers have poor follow-up. A lack of consistent contact causes valuable relationships to suffer, or even dwindle to the point where somebody else who's stayed in contact snatches the business.

Marketing Tip #6 - Don't Confuse Marketing with Sales

Before you can sell your service, you must have a prospect. Before you have a prospect, you must have a lead. Trying to jump from stranger to client isn't a fruitful strategy. Instead, implement an effective lead- generating system (Learn how to do this by joining my Commercial Real Estate Success Inner Circle - watch for the re-launch later next month!). Focus your efforts entirely on generating qualified leads and keep your pipeline full!

Marketing Tip #7 - Don't Give Up Marketing

Give your new marketing campaign a chance to work. Remember it takes five to nine times receiving a message before it kicks in. And, you must continue to stay in contact. If you don't - your competitor will!

Magic Tricks: The Ice Breaker

I'm sure most people have seen some form of magic before. There have been enough famous magicians to give the trade world wide exposure. Houdini amazed audiences with his escape tactics. David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear. Then there is David Blaine, who stunned audiences with his exceptional skill of street magic. He has capitalized on the best form of magic because it involves the audience and makes it a social situation. This response can work for anybody.

If you are willing to spend some time mastering a few tricks, you can become the center of attention and never have trouble meeting new people. The real trick to magic is finding something that you are capable of. Some tricks involve sleight of hand where you can make ball move from one hand to the other.

Popular tricks involve math where you use numbers and letters to spell a word you have predicted. The best part about street magic is there are so many tricks you are bound to find one that you can master. Then simply carry the tools you need for the trick with you. Carrying a pen or a deck of cards is easy, well much easier than mustering up the courage to use a pick up line anyways. It's amazingly easy to use this to your advantage and meet new people.

When you start learning mixed wrong, running counts and other things with the bridge will be helpful to know your ability to make the overhand shuffle properly. If you do not believe me, take a copy of Royal Road to Card Magic by Jean Hugard and Fred Rick eyebrow. The entire firstChapter is devoted to the basic overhand shuffle.

2. The ripples Shuffle - shuffle I see evil done many times, and still in the hands of someone doing the right can be a thing of beauty. This shuffle is a bit 'more advanced than the overhand shuffle, but it's better if you sit at a table. For a good overview of the checker shuffle, try to pick up the classic book by SW Erdnase - Experts of the table.

The key to a good shuffle (if) Magic is not the attention to them. You want to keep the audience's attention for screening U.S. and get no heat in your hand while you try to pull a move are. How to Do Magic Tricks For Fun - The Famous Four Ace Trick

The Four Ace Trick is a great classic of magic and being able to perform it well is the mark of a master magician. There are literally hundreds of methods of performing this trick and many require difficult sleights and years of practice. However, this version obtains the same amazing effect without any sleight of hand. If performed well, this trick will get a fantastic reaction from any audience.

How It Looks To The Audience

The magician deals four aces, in a row, face up on the table. He then deals one card face down on top of each ace but lets part of each ace still show. The magician then deals two more cards, face down, on top of each ace. He then turns each ace face down but keeps the aces at the bottom of each pile. The magician then places the four piles one on top of the other and places the sixteen cards on the top of the deck.

The magician then deals the top sixteen cards into four piles, one card at a time, to each pile. The fourth pile is made up of the four aces and the magician marks this pile by turning the bottom ace face up. The magician then asks a spectator to choose one of the other piles and marks it by turning its bottom card face up.

He then transfers the face up ace to the spectator's pile and the indifferent card from the spectator's pile, to the pile of aces. The magician says that birds of a feather flock together and waves his hand over the two piles. When the magician turns the two piles over, the aces are in the spectator's pile and the three indifferent cards are in the ace pile!

How The Trick Is Done

The cards are dealt out as in the description above until the sixteen cards are dealt off the top of the pack. The first four cards are dealt from left to right to form four piles. The fourth card dealt is an ace. The magician then takes the fifth card off the pack and looking at the fourth card says that card is an ace. The magician then pretends that the spectator doubts his word and says he will show him. The magician then replaces the fifth card on the bottom of the pack and turns over the fourth card to show it is an ace. He turns the ace face down and continues to deal the cards, one at a time to each pile, so he ends up with four piles of four cards again. However, when all the cards are dealt there will now be three aces in the third pile and only one ace in the fourth pile.

The magician must now force the third pile on the spectator. He does this by asking him to point to any of the two piles in the first three piles. If the spectator points to the first and second piles, then the magician takes them away. If the spectator points to the third pile and any other pile, then the magician takes away the pile that was left. That will leave two piles. The magician then asks the spectator to point to one of the two piles. If he points to the third pile, then the magician will take away the pile that was left. If he points to the other pile, then the magician will take that away and leave the third pile.

The magician then turns face up the ace at the bottom of the fourth pile and the indifferent card at the bottom of the third pile. He then exchanges the two face up cards from pile to pile. Telling the audience that birds of a feather flock together, he then waves his hand over the piles and turns the cards in the fourth pile face up, showing them to be aces. He turns over the cards in the third pile and shows them to be indifferent cards.

The Magic of Broadway

The 19th century gave birth to theater on Broadway as the marvelous invention of electric lighting enabled STARS to shine brightly from this platform. Theaters sprung up on Broadway and along 42nd Street and the narrative of the time, the Broadway musical was full of hope and glory. These comedies featured characters and situations taken from everyday life, but portrayed American culture as one of abundance, despite the poverty of the time. As a result these musicals were an inspiration to many who dared to dream.

From these humble beginnings a theater movement was born that over the years would launch the careers of many legendary stars. The Broadway stage is still considered hallowed ground for actors, singers and dancers from around the world still consider it an honor to 'tread the boards' there.

On Broadway

Broadway is the primary business street of New York stretching for about six miles, until Central Park. "Broadway" theater takes its name from this street, but not all Broadway theaters are located there. A Broadway show, defined as a play or musical, is staged in one of 39 theaters located in New York City's borough of Manhattan. These theaters meet the criteria of having 500 seats or more with productions guaranteed to have universal appeal.

The famous Theater District, also known as the Great White Way is situated in midtown Manhattan, near Times Square, where Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue.
You can enter the world of Broadway pre-show by reading the fascinating retrospective "It Happened on Broadway An Oral History of the Great White Way" by Myrna Katz Frommer and Harvey Frommer, showcasing wonderful tales of the 'fantasies, foibles and flops' of New York's Broadway Theater through the years.

The Way We Were

Broadway plays and musicals are rooted in the 19th century variety show which was known as vaudeville. It was a style of drama where the audience were entertained by different forms of spectacle. Musicians, comedians, female and male impersonators, animal acts and acrobats all formed part of one show.

There were also elements of the burlesque personified by performance art and adult entertainment such as the popular strip tease. Female performers would dress up in colorful costumes against the background of dramatic lighting and mood music. The art of fire-breathing was also birthed during this era.

The Theater Guild founded in 1919, was responsible for moving American theater away from the commercial standards. The Guild started bringing over more serious plays from Europe, by writers like Bernard Shaw and August Strindberg. As a result, European influences started to assert themselves in the form of grand opera, operetta and realist drama.
American theatre would never have blossomed into the most commercially viable in the world without the input of early investors. Theater impresario Oscar Hammerstein amongst others, helped develop the Broadway theater district by building opera houses, theaters and a vaudeville house. The Schubert family of New York City were also instrumental in growing this district. They owned the renowned Winter Garden Theatre at 1634 Broadway and the Sam S. Shubert at 221 West 44th Street plus the Imperial Theaters. Together they managed, owned or booked over 1000 theaters.

The legacy of Broadway theatre is that it gave the world access to some of the most influential American composers, notably, George Gershwin, who wrote both for Broadway and the classical concert hall. His popular songs were sure hits for artists Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Judy Garland, and Nina Simone to name a few. Cole Porter was the composer and songwriter of many American musical comedies like Kiss Me, Kate, Fifty Million Frenchmen and Anything Goes, as well as 'songs that would live forever' like "Night and Day", "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "I've Got You Under My Skin".

Leonard Bernstein was another inspired American composer, pianist and conductor who embodied the spirit of Broadway. He was the first American born conductor to receive world-wide acclaim, and is known for both his conducting of the New York Philharmonic, and his many compositions, which include the ever-popular musical, West Side Story.

Famous American playwrights cut their teeth on Broadway. The dramatic realism drama of Anton Chekhov, and Henrik Ibsen, found its modern voice in the works of Eugene O' Neil, the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright, who was the first to use truly American vernacular in his narrative. O'Neill wrote only one comedy (Ah, Wilderness!); all his other plays focus on the battle of the outsider, highlighting his personal struggle.

Neil Simon the prolific and lauded American playwright and screenwriter has won a total of three Tony Awards and has been nominated for an additional fourteen. His work ranges from light comedies (Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple), to the more introspective (Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues) plus his original screenplays (The Out-of-Towners, Murder by Death, and The Goodbye Girl).

Stars on Broadway

Unfortunately, we will never have the chance to see Marlon Brando in a
'A Streetcar Named Desire' or witness the acting prowess of Katherine Hepburn, the iconic four-time Academy Award-winning American star.

However, the good news is that film stars have become stage-struck and now want to appear on Broadway. Lately there has been a desire amongst actors in the film community to embrace the real culture of performance, to experience the thrilling live interaction between actor and audience. Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, John Malcovich and Julia Roberts have all appeared on Broadway and Julianne Moore and Bill Nighy have made their stage debuts there. Chances are you'll book a show and see a STAR.

Broadway still remains the theatrical rite of passage.

A trip to the Big Apple is incomplete without a trip to Broadway. New York Journey provides travelers with an up-to-date directory of NYC attractions to visit and where to stay. Introduction:

I have this guide some time ago and was surprised with the content. Normally Magic E-books are full of fluff information on the Internet and do not want this useless filler to show all of value. Master Mentalism but contains tons of relevant, valuable magical secrets. I recall a number of years and have learned many new magical effects of thisGuide.

Content:

Master Mentalism is a book with 223 pages in PDF. The book is divided into six main sections:

1. Mentalism, Mind Reading and psychological Illusions (the "meat" of the book)

2. Interviews with Criss Angel and David Blaine

3. David Copperfield secrets

4. Levitation techniques

5. Card Tricks

Ryan also has a fantastic job thoroughly for each of the sections, although a large part of the bookin the first chapter of mentalism. The magic tricks are in different levels, some of the tricks can be learned immediately, while others will definitely take time perfectly. Most magic tricks that many viewers. If you want a specific person, you may not have much to gain from this book. But if you're the kind to impress and entertain groups at parties and other social events, then Master Mentalism if definitely the right thing forThem.

My favorite mental effect was "Drunk on Water." Ryan shows how to drink a voluntary act and feel after drinking pure water! There is absolutely no alcohol involved, just good old H20.

In the third section of Master Mentalism is shocking, revealing remarkable illusion of David Copperfield. You can look around the world these secrets, but chapter 3 Master Mentalism is the only place to go find them. As I said, I have a magician for a longTime, but the first place I learned how David Copperfield managed to get rid of the Statue of Liberty was in Mentalism Masters. I think the chapter on David Copperfield's secret alone is worth the price of the entire book.

Ryan said that a consultant magical world famous, "Mr. X" to unlock the secrets. This may just be hype, or it could be true. However, the secrets damn good.

Street Magic Masters

Street magic is also known as "street performance" or "guerrilla magic." Street magic first appeared as a form of busking (or performing for money from passersby). It included card tricks, eating fire, fortune telling, clowning, juggling, etc. Today, street magic is mainly used for the film industry. The reactions of people are taped, and they are later on edited and distributed to the wide public via DVDs or regular television broadcasting.

In street magic, an illusionist must not only find an audience, but he or she must also keep them interested and awed of his performance. It is the magician's job to crash the rational thinking of the crowd. At the end of his or her performance the audience must start doubting physics and begin thinking something to the extent of "I know levitation isn't possible, but could it be possible?" This is harder to accomplish when performing in a large theater where people are a certain distance away. But when you are standing right next to your audience, on the street, within a touching distance, people start believing that maybe whatever you do is indeed possible.

Who are the street magic masters?

Jeff Sheridan - The most amazing thing about Sheridan is the way he can manipulate cards. His silent approach to performing is even more astonishing because usually magicians like to talk in order to distract their audience. Jeff Sheridan is the teacher of two great magicians - David Blaine and David Copperfield. He has been an inspiration to many other performers with the street magic he practiced in New York's Central Park. Jeff's ideas have been used by two famous companies that manufacture magical toys and accessories.

David Blaine - Blaine is not only a magician, but he is also an endurance artist. Some of the stunts he pulled in the past few years have put his life in danger. One such example is his fast over the Thames River. He was put in a see through plastic box where he didn't eat anything for 44 days. During his stay in the box, he lost 54 pounds and his body mass dropped to 21.6% (from almost 30%). David Blaine has made street magic very popular thanks to his TV show "Street Magic." He performed tricks like levitation, card through window, card in a bottle, and voodoo ash. Like every other good magician, David's main goal is to entertain by deceiving. Most of his tricks involve a lot of practice and the help of a third party (other people who are in on the trick).

Cyril Takayama - Takayama is a very popular street magician in Japan. Some of his most famous tricks include the hamburger in the menu and the card through the window. One of his spectacular performances was his bungee jump into a pool with a sword in hand. There was a deck of cards floating in the pool, including the card chosen by his co host. He was then able to spear that chosen card with the sword.

The world of street magic is very exciting because it makes the experience more believable. However, it does require a lot of work and practice, and there is always something that can go wrong when performing in front of a crowd. In order to impress the crowd street magicians may sometimes need a "lovely assistant" that stays in the shadows and goes unnoticed. At times this assistant may act like he or she is part of the crowd. The more impressive a magic trick is, the more likely a magician will need additional assistance from either a person or a specially created device.

In history, mentalism was more about possessing supernatural powers and special mental abilities. The latest masters in this amazing field, like Criss Angel, David Blaine and Derrin Brown, have managed to redefine the art of mentalism for the 21st century.

One of the fantastic things about today's mentalism is the total freshness of the illusions and tricks we have all come to know and love when watching these modern day masters perform their craft. Most popular would be the tricks that involve the illusion of mind reading or telepathy. Imagine doing as these modern day masters do, and be able to foretell the outcome of certain events or read the minds of your audience, with the obvious outcome of absolutely baffling your audience!

Telepathy is one of those abilities that can be performed using many different props, and in so many different ways, it may not seem that two events are ever performed the same way. It truly is an amazing ability to possess, and mentalism is the way to learn it.

To make it one of the most exciting and awe-inspiring arts, there is usually a mix of clairvoyance, precognition and even psycho-kinesis thrown in to absolutely blow the minds of those lucky enough to witness it. Even by itself the art of psycho-kinesis, which is the art of being able to move or manipulate things with your mind, is thrilling to witness.

These things could include bending spoons, or moving objects, and we all know the excitement of seeing this happen before our eyes.

It may seem impossible at this stage, but with a little practice and the correct guidance, it really is possible for anyone to achieve the status that these modern day mentalists have achieved.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thanksgiving in New York City means, in addition to family gatherings and turkey with all the trimmings, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It all began on Thanksgiving Day, 1924 when Macy's employees marched from 145th Street in Harlem to the 34th Street flagship Macy's store. Then called the Macy's Christmas Parade, the first parade featured live animals from the Central Park Zoo. The parade was a big hit, drawing an audience of a quarter million people. With that measure of success, Macy's declared it would be an annual event.

The live animals were discontinued early on. Large balloons replaced them. In 1927, Felix the Cat, an air-filled balloon, made his parade debut. By 1928, there were other outsized balloons, helium-filled as they are to this day. At first, the balloons were released into the air, but that tradition was short-lived.

True to its origin as a Christmas parade, a highlight of every parade has been the arrival of Santa Claus at Macy's to usher in the holiday season. Traditionally, Santa provides a festive finale to the procession.

The popularity of the parade grew during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The spectators soon numbered over one million. The festivities were broadcast locally over the radio beginning in 1932. The balloons depicted popular characters, introducing Mickey Mouse in 1934 and Uncle Sam in 1938.

The parade was not held during the war years of 1942, 1943, and 1944. Rubber and helium, used in the large balloons, were needed for the war effort.

The parade returned in the first post-war year of 1945, however, and proved as popular as ever. The line of march began on 77th Street, continued down Central Park West to Columbus Circle, then onto Broadway and down to Herald Square at 34th Street. That route was followed for decades.

Film of the actual 1946 parade was incorporated into the opening scenes of the original movie classic, "Miracle on 34th Street." By the late 1940s, the local New York parade was being televised to a national audience.

Over the years, the cast of balloons has changed with the addition of newly popular characters and the retirement of others.

10,000 people, including many Macy's employees, participate annually in the parade. Viewers along the route now number between 2 and 3 million. The course of the parade was changed in 2009, for the first time in decades. Still beginning at 77th Street and Central Park West and ending at Herald Square, it no longer travels down Broadway, partly because Broadway at Times Square has been made into a pedestrian mall.

Although watching the parade on television works fine, it can't compete with the excitement of being there on a Thanksgiving morning. Spectators begin lining the parade route as early as 6:30 in the morning, though the parade doesn't kick off from 77th Street until 9.

An additional treat for potential parade watchers occurs the night before Thanksgiving when the public gets a chance to view the inflation of the giant balloons in the streets from 77th to 81st near Central Park West.
